Product detailed description
Mid century wardrobe, catalogue No. U-450, designed by Jiri Jiroutek. It´s made of beechwood, veneer, plywood. The cabinet comes from the famous Universal series (U-450), which was designed in 1958 for the Czechoslovak national company Interiér Praha by the Czech designer Jiří Jiroutek. The success of the Czech pavilion at the Brussels Ex-‘58 was followed by the rise of the modernist style (called "Brussels style" in Czechoslovakia). One of the most prominent representatives of the Brussels style are the cabinets and chests of drawers from the U-450 series with typical pastel colors and sloping legs. In Czechoslovakia in the 1960s and 1970s, you could meet them in almost every modern household. The cabinets were unique not only in design, but also in their technological innovation, which enabled their serial production and availability at a time when there was a huge demand for furniture in Czechoslovakia. These cabinets were one of the first to be made from already prepared parts, from which they were then assembled. The same technological process allowed the cheaper of furniture and the expansion of companies such as IKEA. This cabinet is original from the 60's, in very good preserved condition, shows signs of age and using.
