This pair of bentwood chairs showcases the enduring appeal of classic Thonet design. Featuring black lacquered beech frames and woven Vienna straw seats, the chairs combine refined craftsmanship with everyday functionality.
These chairs are identified as Model No. 218 and were produced during the 1960s by a former Thonet factory in Poland for the Italian distributor Herbatschek. The design follows the bentwood tradition pioneered by Michael Thonet, whose revolutionary steam-bending technique transformed furniture production and became one of the most influential developments in modern furniture history. The chairs feature a square Vienna straw seat, a curved ergonomic backrest, and a lightweight yet durable construction.
Crafted from black lacquered bent beechwood with hand-woven Vienna straw seats, the chairs remain in very good condition. According to the previous owner, they were never used for seating and retain their original finish without restoration. Minor signs of age may be present consistent with long-term storage.
